FBI Names New Leaders of 2 Divisions at Washington Field Office

The FBI has named new leaders of the Counterterrorism Division and the Criminal/Cyber Division at the Washington Field Office. 

Sanjay Virmani was promoted from deputy assistant director in the Counterterrorism Division to the special agent in charge of the division. 

David J. Scott, who had been serving as deputy assistant director for the Cyber Division, is now the special agent in charge of the Criminal/Cyber Division. 

Virmani began his career with the FBI in 2003 and worked numerous assignments at the San Francisco Field Office, including serving as the supervisory special agent and leading the office’s Joint Terrorism Task Force in the Oakland Resident Agency. 

In 2013, Virmani began serving as director of the INTERPOL Digital Crime Center at the INTERPOL Global Complex for Innovation in Singapore. 

In 2016, he served in various roles combating cyberterrorism at FBI headquarters before returning to San Francisco in 2018 as the supervisory special agent of the Private Sector Engagement squad and eventually assistant special agent in charge of the Cyber Branch. 

Scott also joined the bureau in 2003 and was assigned to the Louisville Field Office. 

In 2006, Scott began working in the Washington Field Office and was promoted to supervisory special agent within the International Terrorism Operations Section. He continued investigating terrorism in several different roles in Washington. 

In 2020, Scott began serving as section chief for the Public Corruption and Civil Rights Section of the Senior Executive Service. 

Scott became deputy assistant director of the Cyber Division at FBI headquarters in 2021.
