A Honduran national who assaulted a Border Patrol agent with a knife was sentenced to six-and-a-half years in federal prison last week.

Kevin Roney Rodriguez-Sauceda, 29, assaulted the agent after being apprehended near Eagle Pass in Texas in August 2022. Rodriguez-Sauceda assaulted the agent, while another undocumented immigrant bit the agent.

Both immigrants were arrested.

“We are once again reminded that our partners in green place their lives on the line each and every day in defense of the United States and the integrity of our border,” U.S. Attorney Jaime Esparza for the Western District of Texas said in a statement. “Thank you to our partners at the FBI and U.S. Border Patrol for their dedication to the mission and upholding the law.”

The FBI and USBP investigated the case.

“This case is a reminder of the danger U.S. Border Patrol agents and law enforcement officers face while working to protect people every day,” said Oliver E. Rich Jr., special agent in charge of the FBI’s San Antonio Division. “This sentencing is a reflection of the FBI’s commitment in partnering with law enforcement at all levels to keep our communities safe.”
