On Tuesday night a giddy Republican House impeached Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas by the thinnest of margins, 214-213.
Congrats kids. You’ve done. And of course your action only makes America Greater (Again).
Instead of addressing the border crisis, the House has wasted taxpayer dollars and time impeaching Mayorkas in what is purely a symbolic gesture and a big middle finger to the White House There’s no chance, zero, of conviction in the Senate.
At the same time, House Speaker Mike Johnson is beaming about the House refusing to consider the bipartisan Senate bill to address the border issue. Yes, it’s not perfect. And yes there are compromises. But it’s a step in the right direction.
There’s nothing that precludes lawmakers from improving upon those laws later.
Of course, Johnson has gotten his marching orders from ex-President Donald Trump not to accept the bill. All or none, Trump says. But skeptics feel it really comes down to lawmakers handing President Joe Biden a victory.
Imagine that, handing a victory to a president that would benefit the American people in every corner of the country. Come to think of it, helping a Democratic president and benefiting the American people; Why that sounds blasphemous. UnAmerican.
Keep doing what you’re doing Speaker Johnson. Remember, your number one job is to keep your job. Everything else is secondary, particularly the welfare of the country.
