Mark Giuliano, a 28-year FBI veteran who served as deputy director of the bureau from 2013 to 2016, died unexpectedly at his home in Decatur, Ga., The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
Giuliano was 62.
Giuliano joined the bureau in 1988 and climbed the ranks. He served as assistant director of the FBI Counterterrorism Division within the National Security Branch from 2010 to 2011.
He became the executive assistant director of the FBI National Security Branch from 2011 to 2012.
From 2012 to 2013, Giuliano served as the special agent in charge of the bureau’s Atlanta Field Office.
In a statement, Keri Farley, special agent in charge of the Atlanta Field Officer, said Giuliano was “an amazing leader, mentor, and friend.”
“His steadfast leadership, guidance and passion for the FBI mission will be greatly missed,” Farley added.
After retiring from the bureau in 2016, Giuliano joined Invesco as the company’s chief security officer in Atlanta. Since then, he served as chief administrative officer and managing director of the investment management company.
“His contributions to Invesco’s business over his eight years with the firm have been immeasurable, but his ability to connect with and care for our people is what we will miss most,” Invesco CEO Andrew Schlossberg said in a statement. “The entire Invesco community mourns his passing, and we extend our deepest condolences to his family.”
Giuliano received a degree in economics from the College of Wooster in Ohio.
He was born in Ohio.
