A Mexican federal judge has ordered convicted drug lord Ernesto “Don Neto” Fonseca Carrillo, co-founder of the Guadalajara cartel, to pay relatives of slain DEA agent Enrique “Kiki” Camarena nearly $1 million, the Associated Press reports. Camarena was tortured and killed in 1985.
The order was announced last Friday.
Fonseca, 86, was transferred from prison in July to serve the remaining nine years of his 40-year sentence under house arrest due to his advanced age and ill health, AP reports.
Two other drug bosses were convicted in the slaying.
