Multiple current and former Secret Service officials plan to testify before a grand jury in Washington D.C. today in the case of former President Trump’s handling of classified documents, CBS News reports.
Special counsel Jack Smith recently issued subpoenas for the officials to testify.
The Secret Service officials are believed to be the first from the agency to testify. But they won’t be the last, sources said. Others from the Secret Service are expected to testify in the next few weeks.
Smith was appointed by Attorney General Merrick Garland to investigate the classified documents found at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence and Trump’s role in the Jan. 6 insurrection.
Secret Service agents are just the latest to testify in the classified documents case. Last week, a judge ordered Trump attorney Evan Corcoran to testify.
