Troubled Anthony Weiner tearfully admitted Friday in U.S. District Court in New York that he sent sexual material to a 15-year-old high school student in North Carolina. Under a plea agreement he will be forced to register as a sex offender and surrender his cell phone, ABC News reports.

Weiner,  a former Congressman and estranged husband of top Hillary Clinton aide Huma Abedin, pleaded guilty to a single count of transferring obscene material to a minor.

In an emotional statement today, Weiner said he “compulsively sought attention from women,” and that his behavior began when he entered Congress and continued through part of 2016.

His plea agreement calls for a sentence of 21 to 27 months in prison. Sentencing is set for Sept. 8.

Hillary Clinton emails on his computer became the source of a major disruption in the 2016 presidential campaign.
